Full Mouth Implants vs. Snap-In Dentures

Full mouth dental implants and snap-in dentures both use dental implants to replace a full arch of teeth. Full mouth implants hold a fixed set of teeth that only your dentist removes, while snap-in dentures clip onto implants and come out for cleaning. Dr. Jaime Lee provides both at Smile Art and recommends the option that fits your bone, your bite, and the way you would like to care for your teeth.

What is the difference between full mouth implants and snap-in dentures?

The difference is whether the teeth stay fixed or come out. Full mouth dental implants, sometimes called All-on-4, attach a complete arch of teeth to several implants with screws, so the teeth stay in place like natural teeth. Snap-in dentures rest on the gums and clip onto implants, which keeps them stable while still letting you remove them each day.

How do full mouth dental implants work?

Dr. Lee places several implants in the jaw, positioned to support a full arch of replacement teeth. After the implants heal, a custom set of teeth is fastened to them and stays in place for eating, speaking, and sleeping. You clean the teeth with a toothbrush and cleaning aids, and Dr. Lee removes them only for professional maintenance.

How do snap-in dentures work?

Snap-in dentures are full dentures with attachments on the underside that clip onto implants in the jaw. The implants keep the denture from shifting, while the denture still rests on the gums for part of its support. You take the denture out to clean it and the gums beneath it, then snap it back into place.

Who are full mouth implants a good fit for?

Full mouth implants often fit patients who want teeth that stay in place at all times and feel closest to natural teeth. They need enough healthy bone to support several implants, or bone that can be prepared for them. They also suit patients who prefer not to remove their teeth each day.

Who are snap-in dentures a good fit for?

Snap-in dentures often fit patients who wear a denture and would like it to stay secure while eating and speaking. Because they use fewer implants, they can suit patients with less available bone. They also suit patients who prefer to remove their teeth to clean them.

How does Dr. Lee help you choose?

Dr. Lee evaluates your jawbone with imaging, along with your gums, your bite, and any remaining teeth. She explains which designs fit your bone and how each would feel, function, and be cared for day to day.

What affects the cost of each option?

The cost depends on the number of implants, the materials used for the teeth, and any extractions or bone grafting needed beforehand. Full mouth implants generally involve more implants and a more complex set of teeth than snap-in dentures. Our team prices each option for you, with your benefits applied, before you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Are snap-in dentures permanent?

Snap-in dentures stay secure on their implants but are designed to be removed for cleaning. Full mouth dental implants are the fixed option, removed only by your dentist.

Can I switch from snap-in dentures to fixed teeth later?

Sometimes. Changing to fixed teeth may require additional implants, depending on how many are already in place and the bone available. Dr. Lee can evaluate this when you plan your treatment.

Can my current denture be converted to a snap-in denture?

In some cases, an existing denture can be fitted with attachments once implants are placed. Dr. Lee evaluates the fit and condition of your denture to determine whether this is possible.

Do I need a bone graft?

Some patients need a bone graft to support implants, especially after teeth have been missing for some time. Dr. Lee assesses your bone with imaging and explains whether grafting is part of your plan.
